Play Therapy

Play Therapists understand that children may not possess the ability to talk about the issues they are struggling with in the same way that adults are capable of. In order to help children fully express themselves, be heard, and work through their issues, children need to be able to communicate effectively with their therapist. Play Therapy views PLAY as the natural language of children, which fosters quality communication in therapy.

The Association for Play Therapy describes play therapy as:

“More simply put, child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the ‘language’ of the child – play.  Licensed mental health professionals therapeutically use play to help their clients, most often children ages three to 12 years, to better express themselves and resolve their problems.”
